Philadelphia Marathon Race Image

THE COURSE

In Philadelphia, we redefine the experience of what a marathon should be. A beautiful course, an engaging atmosphere—it’s no wonder we're consistently listed among the top ten courses in the country, recognized for our flat terrain, mellow weather and spirited fans.

Expect beautiful views through Fairmount Park and along the Schuylkill River and neighborhood crowds gathering on sidewalks in University City and Manayunk. Weave through the well-traveled streets of our historic district, passing sights familiar to Franklin, Washington and the rest of the gang, and end your race speeding towards the steps of the majestic Art Museum.

Digital splits are provided at the 10K, 13.1 mile and 30K marks along the course, and fluid stations and spectator overlooks are set up throughout the course.

Oh, that’s another thing: the fans. You'd better get ready for the crowds, because each year, thousands of spectators line the course eager to cheer on runners. There's nothing we love more in this town than a champion...all 30,000 of them.

THE COURSE

It's half the Marathon, with all the triumph!

Have the best time of your life completing 13.1 challenging miles that wind through Philadelphia’s most scenic and historic neighborhoods. From the history-steeped streets of Old City, through one of the liveliest stretches of Center City, across the Schuylkill, up through the bucolic trails of Fairmount Park, and back down to canvas the banks of the river. The course is also sanctioned by USA Track & Field.

The Half Marathon was added to Race Weekend in 2006 and has seen an increase in runners every year since. Whether as a test-run for first-time marathoners or as a challenging race along a scenic route, the Half Marathon has given thousands of runners the opportunity to take on the Philadelphia Marathon on their own terms.

KIDS FUN RUN EVENTS

Kids can have the best time of their lives, too—even if we’re not timing them. Our Kids Fun Runs, short-distance, non-competitive events for kids of all ages, focuses on the enjoyable sport of running. They encourage families to discover the fundamentals of fitness. The goal of the run is to provide a positive experience that will encourage the young to be active and physically fit.

Family Fun Activities - Pre-race activities kick off at 11 a.m. and include face painting, caricature and balloon artists, games, and more!

Diaper Derby & Toddler Trot (Children under 3 years) - The Diaper Derby and Toddler Trot races are the perfect activity for our youngest participants. Participants will receive special goodies and giveaways.

Dashes (Children ages 3 to 12) - The Kids Fun Run activities will include a series of short-distance dashes, beginning at Noon. Each age group will have a separate race with age-appropriate distances. Participants will receive special goodies and giveaways.

Mile and Half Mile Fun Run (Children ages 6 to 12) - Mile and Half Mile races will begin immediately following the Dashes. Participants will get the thrill of running on the Philadelphia Marathon course and cross the same finish line as our marathoners! Participants will receive a finisher medal and t-shirt.

Upon completion of the Kids Fun Runs, children will be led into the holding area; once inside, they will be presented with their finisher’s medals. At that point, children will be escorted to their parents by a volunteer who will take them to the opening in the holding area barricades.

To join in the run, children must have a parent or guardian on site. Adults will not be permitted on the course to run with their children. Waivers are required and will be available on site.
