Philadelphia Marathon Weekend officials are excited to announce that USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards has chosen Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon as a nominee for Best Half Marathon.

In 2023, for the first time since its inception, the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon sold out with 15,000 registered athletes, a testament to both our cherished relationships with our annual athletes who participate year after year, and to the uniquely-crafted course and experience that entices thousands of welcomed newcomers.

As we begin to set goals and benchmarks in the new year for Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, we must first look back and reflect on just how far we’ve come. Last year was a monumental year for the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend as we celebrated the 30th running of the AACR Philadelphia Marathon, but that’s not all we celebrated. Take a look at some of the highlighted moments below that made 2023 a special year for us.

(November 21, 2023) – Philadelphia Marathon Weekend Donates Close to $200,000 in Clothing to the Salvation Army

After a record-breaking Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, race officials donated close to $200,000 in clothing to the Salvation Army on Tuesday, November 21. Once the final corral of athletes takes off, race staff and volunteers begin their sweep of the streets, collecting the discarded outerwear from the athletes. Hundreds of bags of discarded sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters, hats, and other mixed clothing articles were collected for donation.

(November 16, 2023) – Mayor Jim Kenney to kick off the 2023 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend at the Marathon Health & Fitness Expo Friday

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Officials will kick off Philadelphia Marathon Weekend at the Philadelphia Marathon Health and Fitness Expo and welcome over 34,000 athletes to the weekend’s races – the AACR Philadelphia Marathon, now in its 30th year, the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon, the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K, and the Nemours Children’s Run.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The City of Philadelphia and race organizers will welcome athletes from around the world who are participating in the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend events on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11:15 a.m. during a press conference and ceremonial ribbon-cutting before the official opening of the Health and Fitness Expo located at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

(November 2, 2023) City Announces Road Closures for 2023 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The City of Philadelphia today released information about upcoming road closures associated with the Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend. Streets will be closed in many parts of the city during the weekend of Friday, November 17 through Sunday, November – 19, 2023. Traffic delays can be expected. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, avoid areas along the race course, allow for extra driving time, and proceed with caution during race weekend.

(October 25, 2023) Nemours Children’s Health named the Title Partner of the 2023 Nemours Children’s Run

Philadelphia, PA – The City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Marathon Weekend race officials are proud to announce Nemours Children’s Health as the title partner for the 2023 Nemours Children’s Run.

The Nemours Children’s Run features short-distance, and non-competitive events for youngsters five years to 12 years of age. Each age group will enjoy dashes, half-mile or full-mile distances on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Saturday, November 18. In addition to the races, there will be family fun with a rock-climbing wall, bounce zone, obstacle course, face painting, and more!

(September 13, 2023) The Philadelphia Marathon Weekend Expands its Inclusivity for 2023 Races

Philadelphia, PA –The City of Philadelphia and race organizers of the 2023 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend are excited to announce an expansion of gender diversity, equity, and inclusivity initiatives for this year’s race. The efforts focus on increasing access, opportunity, and representation for underrepresented LGBTQIA+ athletes. These efforts include official race merchandise displayed in a gender-neutral way by style, and equal prize money for elite competitors in accordance with the policies of the national governing body, USA Track and Field (USATF).

(July 26, 2023) Philadelphia Marathon Weekend Funds Health Equity in Philly

Philadelphia, PA –It’s a little-known fact that a portion of the entrance fees for the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend directly benefit community-based organizations seeking to address Philadelphia’s greatest needs. Roughly $250,000 generated annually by the popular race is allocated to the Philadelphia City Fund (PCF) to support its Community Fund grants, which are awarded to Philadelphia organizations that further some of city’s most critical charitable goals. PCF is pleased to announce thirteen 2023 Community Fund Grantees whose work is focused on improving health equity—this year’s theme—for all Philadelphians.

(July 22, 2022) Philadelphia Marathon Weekend 30th Anniversary Call for Design Qualifications

Philadelphia, PA - The Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy (OACCE) has partnered with the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend to hold a design competition for Philadelphia artists to create unique shirt designs for the 30th anniversary of the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend happening in November 2023. The winning design will be incorporated in the shirts and other promotional goods for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Philadelphia Marathon, Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon, and Rothman Orthopaedics 8K races during the 2023 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend. The design competition winner will receive a $3,000 prize.

(October 11, 2021) City and Event Organizers Announce Updated COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for 2021 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend

PHILADELPHIA, PA - With the 2021 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend scheduled to return to the streets of Philadelphia on Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21, the City and event organizers announced that, in accordance with guidance provided by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, all in-person runners at all 2021 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend events will be required to provide proof of a complete COVID-19 vaccination series prior to race weekend. Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid antigen test will not be considered acceptable documentation for participation. As a result of this vaccination requirement, the Dunkin’ Munchkin Run (Kid’s Run) has been cancelled for 2021.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Today the Philadelphia Marathon, recently named one of the Best Marathons in the Northeast, officially announced the latest enhancement to its 2016 Race Weekend- the inaugural 39.3 Rocky Challenge.
